I love the look of really old family photographs, and I’ve always thought they made for great inspiration when painting. Karina Lapierre-Douglas apparently agrees.  She does a great job maintaining the feel of old photographs while adding something unique to the images.  The wallpaper-patterned backgrounds are a nice touch too.

Peter Harris has found a way to make highways, gas stations and parking lots incredibly appealing. This is definitely a case of art surpassing reality.  I mean, unless you really love long dull drives along the 401.  Anyone? Â

 The paintings on Esao Andrews site are great, but there are many other weird and wonderful things happening there as well.  Be sure to look around awhile, it is definitely worth the time.  Personally, I recommend visiting the little girl on the swing.

Remember those fairy tales you read as a kid?  The ones  that seemed simple enough on the surface, but when you looked deeper you realized there was a subtle darkness and melancholy to them?  And then you realized it was the darkness and melancholy that made you like them that much more?  That’s how I feel about Jen Corace’s work.Â
